Window Addendums & Buyers Guides

Learn how to create addendum stickers and buyers guides. Keep your store in line with the rules and your vehicles looking sharp.

What Are Addendum Stickers?

Addendum stickers are extra labels placed on a vehicle's window. They go next to the factory Monroney sticker. They show dealer-added options, add-ons, and adjusted pricing. ScanIt Vehicles creates these stickers from your inventory data. This keeps them correct and looking sharp on every vehicle.

What Addendum Stickers Contain

A typical addendum sticker from ScanIt Vehicles includes:

  • Dealer-added items — Window tinting, bed liners, running boards, pinstripes, and other add-ons
  • Protection packages — Paint guard, fabric guard, rust proofing, and extended warranties
  • Adjusted MSRP — The total price with factory MSRP plus all dealer-added options
  • Dealer info — Your store name, address, and contact details
  • Stock number and VIN — For quick lookup and DMS matching

Making Buyers Guides

FTC rules say every used vehicle for sale must have a Buyers Guide on display. ScanIt Vehicles makes this easy:

  1. Scan the VIN — The system pulls the vehicle record from your DMS.
  2. Pick the template — Choose As-Is or Warranty.
  3. Check the filled-in data — Year, make, model, VIN, and stock number fill in on their own.
  4. Add warranty details — If needed, enter the coverage, length, and cost to the buyer.
  5. Print and apply — Print the Buyers Guide and stick it on the window.

Rules to Follow

Staying in line with the rules keeps your store safe from fines and legal trouble. Keep these in mind:

  • FTC Used Car Rule — Every used vehicle must show a Buyers Guide before a customer sees it
  • As-Is vs. Warranty — The guide must clearly say if the vehicle is sold as-is or with a warranty
  • Spanish version — If you deal in Spanish, you must also give a Spanish Buyers Guide
  • Correct prices — All prices on the addendum must match real charges. Fake or padded fees can lead to legal trouble.

Printing and Applying

Print addendums and buyers guides from any PC on your network. For best results:

  1. Use the right paper — Standard 8.5" x 11" stick-on paper works well for addendums.
  2. Print from the vehicle record — Go to the vehicle in ScanIt Vehicles. Pick the addendum or buyers guide print option.
  3. Check before you apply — Double-check all prices and options against the DMS record.
  4. Place on the right window — Addendums go across from the Monroney sticker. Buyers guides go on a window the buyer can see.
  5. Replace when things change — If prices or options change, print and apply a new sticker right away.
