Viewing Movement History

Every vehicle has a full movement history. It logs every scan and location change. To view it:

  1. Search for the vehicle by stock number, VIN, or model.
  2. Click the result to open the vehicle's detail page.
  3. Click the Movement History tab.
  4. You'll see a list of every scan event with the date, time, location, scan type, and who did the scan.

Reading the Timeline

The timeline shows every event tied to a vehicle. Each entry has:

  • Date and time — When the scan took place.
  • Location — The GPS spot and zone where the vehicle was scanned.
  • Event type — What caused the scan: check-in, lot walk, transfer, count, or manual scan.
  • User — Who did the scan.
  • Notes — Any extra info like condition notes or where the vehicle was going.

Events show newest first. The current status is always at the top. You can scroll through or use date filters to zoom in on a time frame.

Tip: Use the date range filter to narrow down the timeline. For example, if you need to know where a vehicle was on a specific date, set the start and end dates to that day.

Why Movement History Matters

Movement history helps your store in several key ways:

  • Who did what — If a vehicle goes missing or gets damaged, the history shows who last scanned it and where. No more guessing.
  • Settling disputes — When questions come up about when a vehicle arrived or who moved it, the record gives clear answers.
  • Audit proof — If a maker or lender audits you, show them proof of where each vehicle was and who handled it.
  • Better workflow — Managers can spot slow points, like vehicles sitting in detail too long or stuck in the service lane.

How Long Is History Kept?

ScanIt Vehicles keeps all scan and movement data for 18 months. You can look up the full history of any vehicle from the past year and a half.

After 18 months, data is stored and can be requested from IPS support. For vehicles still in stock, the history keeps growing as new scans happen.

With nightly auto backups, your tracking data is always safe and ready when you need it.
